Of the four current candidates for the at-large Commissioner seat, Commissioner Verdes is the only candidate with actual professional experience managing large public budgets. He has direct experience in the government, nonprofit, and healthcare sectors managing large projects and public grants with multi-million-dollar budgets. Commissioner Verdes has a master’s degree in public administration and a PMP project management certification. He understands how to manage projects on time and in budget. Several former Commissioners (who are running this year to get back on the board) spent years completely mismanaging the township budget. They went two decades without raising taxes, all the while increasing spending and taking on enormous debt, this led to the largest tax increase in township history in 2016. That tax increase put a tremendous burden on working families and created real hardship for seniors on fixed incomes. We can’t go back to that kind of fiscal mismanagement.
